Meet Charlie
Hello there,
I’m Charlie, Founder of Symbium Tree Care & Gardens.
I’ve always felt such a deep connection to and care for the natural world.
I grew up in the countryside in Lincolnshire spending my childhood climbing the Silver Birches by my house and never forgot the immense feeling of being at one with a tree, swaying with it in the wind with a huge smile on my face. Nowadays I use an intricate system of safety ropes, harness and devices making my job as safe as possible but i’m still a young boy climbing trees at heart.
I now reside in the Suffolk countryside but travel countrywide to work for a very wonderful network of clients and dear friends providing a caring and personal service wherever I go.
When i’m not climbing trees and caring for gardens I spend my time foraging, exploring nature, growing in and tending my own garden, facilitating sharing circles, doing yoga, making things, dancing barefoot in fields to fiddly folk music with my friends and, sometimes, just being.
Please feel free to get in touch, even if it’s just to chat.
Services that we provide
Felling, dismantling & rigging
Tree felling, dismantling and rigging are key methods that we use use to safely remove trees of all sizes whether they’re in a large open garden or overhanging your kitchen.
If there is enough space then we will potentially fell a tree that needs to be removed.
Dismantling is a more precise method used in confined spaces, where the tree is taken down in sections to protect nearby structures, gardens or power lines.
Rigging involves the use of ropes, pulleys and lowering devices to safely control the descent of heavy branches or trunk sections - ensuring a safe and efficient removal process when trees are close to houses, sheds and any other precious areas.
At Symbium Tree Care & Gardens, we have experience in carrying out all these techniques when trees need to be removed.
Pruning
Pruning helps trees grow stronger by removing dead, diseased or damaged branches and shaping their structure to allow better sunlight and air circulation.
However, incorrect pruning methods and timing can cause damage to a tree and pose potential risks.
Regular pruning encourages healthy growth, prevents potential hazards from falling limbs and enhances the aesthetic in your garden.
It’s an essential part of tree care that supports both the health of your trees and the safety of your property.
Reductions & lifting
Reductions and lifting are key tree management techniques designed to maintain safety, promote tree health and enhance the appearance of your trees.
Reductions involve carefully cutting back the size and shape of a tree’s crown to control growth, reduce weight on heavy limbs and allow more light into surrounding areas - all while maintaining the tree’s natural form.
Lifting (also known as crown lifting) removes the lower branches of a tree to increase clearance for vehicles, pedestrians or buildings, improving visibility and access while keeping the tree healthy and well-balanced.
Hedge trimming
Hedge trimming is an important part of keeping your garden looking neat, healthy and well-maintained.Regular trimming helps shape your hedges, encourages dense and healthy growth.
Whether you need a light maintenance trim to keep your hedges tidy or a full reshape to restore their form, professional hedge trimming ensures clean, precise cuts that promote long-term plant health.
Well-trimmed hedges not only enhance the appearance of your property but also help define boundaries, improve privacy and create a polished, cared-for look all year round.
Like pruning, timing and methodology of hedge trimming are key to prolonging the life of your hedge.
Stump grinding
Stump grinding is the most effective and efficient way to remove unwanted tree stumps after a tree has been felled. Using specialised machinery, the stump is ground down below the surface level, eliminating any visible trace and allowing the area to be safely reused for replanting, turfing or construction.
This process not only improves the appearance of your garden but also prevents issues such as trip hazards, pest infestations and unwanted regrowth.
Tree preservation orders & conservation areas
TPO (Tree Preservation Order) and Conservation Area applications are an important part of responsible tree management.
These legal protections are designed to preserve trees that contribute to the character, beauty and history of an area.
If a tree is covered by a Tree Preservation Order or located within a Conservation Area, permission must be obtained from the local council before any pruning, felling or other work can take place.
Symbium Tree Care & Gardens can handle the entire application process on your behalf - from assessing which trees are protected, to preparing and submitting all necessary documentation and liaising with the local authority.
We ensure all work complies fully with local regulations and environmental standards, helping you manage your trees responsibly while protecting the natural beauty of your property and community.
Garden care & maintenance
Garden care and maintenance are essential for keeping your outdoor spaces healthy, attractive and enjoyable all year round.
From hedge trimming to seasonal planting and general upkeep, regular maintenance ensures your garden always looks its best.
Our professional garden care services include weeding, pruning, edging, planting, leaf clearance and full garden clearances - all tailored to the specific needs of your garden.
Client Reviews
" Charlie has carried out work in our garden on two separate occasions, trimming and removing mature trees. On both visits, he did an excellent job — professional, efficient, and incredibly tidy. The garden was left spotless each time, with all waste neatly cleared away.
He’s a very pleasant, friendly, and courteous young man, a real pleasure to deal with. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Charlie to anyone looking for reliable and high-quality tree surgery work.”
- John MacKenzie
" Charlie manages our mature trees. He does so with great skill and understanding.
He always maintains high professional standards of safety, necessary paperwork, communication and even dealing with concerns from our neighbour.
Highly recommended.”
- Sarah Francis
" Charlie has a deep respect and passion for trees and their importance to the ecosystem that guides his approach to any commission you give him.
He has worked on a number of trees and hedges for us: from general trimming & shaping through to tree reduction and opening up, as well as specific work to promote healthy growth.
He has the knowledge and skill to determine exactly what will produce the best result both for the client and the tree; and each cut is carefully considered.
Cheerful, respectful, skilled and professional; Charlie has a refreshingly transparent and fair approach to his business and I would recommend him unreservedly for any tree surgery projects you might consider. "
- Barry McGill
“ When we moved into our house, the garden was incredibly overgrown, with trees, plants and ivy totally engulfing the fences. Charlie was absolutely brilliant and cut everything back (even if it did reveal the fact the fence was totally knackered!). He cleared all the waste, wood chipped it and the garden looked so much better after he’d finished!
The second time we worked with Charlie he shaped our massive holly tree, which he’d put all the applications in to the council on our behalf. He went round to our elderly neighbour to explain the work and made sure her garden was tidy afterwards too.
I would highly recommend Charlie - he’s great at what he does, reasonably priced and a real gentleman.”
- Kate Maunders
“ Knowledgeable, personable, hardworking ultra professionally.
I have easily recovered 10 plus feet of my garden but without losing the peace my garden gives us.
Highly recommended.”
- Patrick Curran
